Escape the city for a full day discovering the wild Atlantic coast just 55 kilometres from Bordeaux. This small group tour takes you to the charming seaside town of Arcachon, its spectacular Belle Époque Winter Town, and the awe-inspiring Dune du Pilat the tallest sand dune in Europe.
Your day begins with a scenic drive from Bordeaux to Arcachon, a jewel of the French Atlantic coast known for its fine sandy beaches and mild climate. The Winter Town is one of the most remarkable features of Arcachon perched above the town and overlooking the Bay, this district is home to more than 300 ornate villas built during the 19th century. Your guide will lead you through its elegant streets, bringing the stories and architecture of this unique neighbourhood to life.
After some free time in town for lunch by the sea where you can sample Arcachon's famous oysters at a waterfront restaurant you'll head to the Dune du Pilat, which towers over the Atlantic coast at 100 metres high and stretches 2.7 kilometres from north to south. With 60 million metric cubes of sand, it's quite astonishing the first time you see it. From the summit, enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view across the Bay of Arcachon, the Atlantic Ocean, and the vast Landes pine forest stretching out behind you.
